Why are almost all the links gone? And why has the USA map and indexes dissapeared from this site?

Well, it's like this. At least two USACE (United States Army Corps of Engineers) districts (St. Louis and Pittsburgh) have removed their online charts with the explanation (see actual text here) that due to recent events they have removed all charts from their web site.

I could go into my opinion of why this is silly. And point out that at least two other districts (Nashville and Rock Island) have left theirs online. (See Nashville District's Cumberland River and Tennessee River and Rock Island District's Illinois River)

Or I could point out that anyone can easily order them, (or more likely, nefarious types already downloaded all of them years ago)

However, it is their decision, not mine.

I have gotten requests for images I may have saved while doing research. First of all, they are copyrighted images, and as such, I CANNOT distribute any images (if any) that I may have. Second point is this. While I modestly admit that I am one of the most brilliant people this planet has ever had the privilege to be associated with, and while it is my opinion that removing them is silly, it is also due to my great intellect that I realize I MAY not know all the reasons. For this reason, I figure that if the USACE decided to remove those images, it's not going to be ME that goes behind their backs and distributes them, especially to an anomyous person out there somewhere on the web. In other words, please don't ask. And you can buy YOUR charts as easily as I bought mine.

For the above reasons, the site has been changed as you see it, with the addition of links to where charts can be purchased.
